Terms of use

Last updated: 13 October 2026 · Privacy policy

These are the rules for using the Teofil app and website, which are run by Bencode Studio LLC ("we"). By using them you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Teofil.

What Teofil is

Teofil is a way to find barbers, hairdressers, makeup artists and tailors, to see their work and prices, and to send them booking requests. Finding a business, sending requests, messages and reviews are free for customers and for businesses.

The service itself is between you and the business. Teofil is not a party to it, does not employ the businesses, and does not take, hold or move money between customers and businesses.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older to have an account. You may book for yourself or for a child in your care.

You sign in with Google or with Apple, and afterwards you can turn on signing in with your fingerprint or face (a passkey). Your account is for you alone: keep the phone and the Google or Apple account that open it safe, and tell us if you think someone else has used it.

If you lose every way in to your account, you can ask for it back from a new account. A person on our team decides, and nothing is given back automatically.

Booking requests

A request is not a booking until the business accepts it. The business may accept, decline or suggest another time, and either of you may cancel. There is no fee for cancelling, but please cancel early so the time can go to someone else.

A request is sent in the app or, where a business's page offers it, on this website. Either way the answer, your messages, any change and cancelling are in the app: sign in there the same way and your booking is waiting.

You may have up to three unanswered requests at a time. If you do not come and do not cancel, the business can record it. You are told on the booking, and for 14 days you can say there that it is not right; that goes to our team. The businesses you send requests to afterwards see how many times it has happened in the last 12 months, and nothing older. They also see how many confirmed visits you cancelled yourself with less than 24 hours to go in those 12 months; cancelling earlier than that, or cancelling a request that was not yet confirmed, is not counted. A business that marked a visit as missed by mistake can take that back for one day.

A confirmed visit that neither of you says anything about is closed after 30 days as not known. It counts as no visit and is no mark against anyone.

Prices and paying

Prices on a page are the business's own and are a guide: agree the final price with the business before the work starts. You pay the business, in the way you agree with them: directly or, where the business takes cards in the app, by card on our payment partner's page. That payment is made on the business's own account there: the money goes straight to the business, the business is the seller, and Teofil never receives or holds it. A tip, where one is offered, is yours to give or not. Nobody pays Teofil for a booking, and nobody acting for Teofil will ever ask you to.

A business may ask for a deposit only in the app, and a deposit is only to pay once the visit is confirmed. A business that takes cards in the app sets its own deposit, up to the full price. Where it sets one on a service, its page shows the amount and its own rules before you send a request, and you accept them with the request: how long you have to pay after it confirms, and how long before the visit you can cancel and have the deposit back. If you do not pay in that time, the visit is called off. If you cancel in time, the business is to return the deposit less the card fee our payment partner took on your payment: the page says about how much that is before you agree. If the business cancels, it is to return all of it. If you cancel later or do not come, the business keeps it. Whatever a business's rules, you may cancel within 1 hour of paying a deposit and have it back less the card fee; for a visit booked less than a day ahead it is 15 minutes, and there is no such time within 2 hours of the visit. A refund is the business's to give: Teofil does not hold the money and does not decide a disagreement about it. If something is wrong with a card payment, please ask the business for your money back first, from the booking, and then ask us to look, before asking your bank; this is only a request, and you can go to your bank first at any time. Your own bank can take up a card payment you dispute.

We may stop a business taking card payments in the app when it owes a customer a refund and has not given it, or when customers' banks take its payments back. Its page stays up, and what was already paid can still be refunded. A new business may have only a few deposits asked for or paid at one time for visits still to come, until customers have finished visits with it; past that, a visit is confirmed with no deposit. A customer whose bank takes payments back from more than one business may no longer pay by card in the app. When a bank questions a card payment, that is between the customer, the business and the bank: we tell the business and give it the booking's own record to answer with (what was booked, the rules that were agreed, the payments, the messages and whether the visit happened). Teofil does not decide it and does not return the money.

A business that does not take cards in the app may ask for a deposit only if at least 5 different customers have finished a visit with it, and for no more than half the price (for a booking for several people, half the price for all of them). That deposit is paid to the business, outside the app. Teofil does not receive it, cannot see whether it was paid and cannot get it back for you. If anyone asks you for money in any other way before your visit, report them in the app.

Text messages

If you give us your phone number, Teofil may send it messages about your bookings, by text or on WhatsApp: the code that proves the number is yours and, for a booking with a business in the United States, a text when it cancels or moves your visit and, if it is on Pro, a reminder. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to a text to stop them, HELP for help, or write to support@teofil.app. Carriers are not liable for late or undelivered messages. No business sees your number.

Messages and behaviour

You and a business write to each other in the thread that belongs to a booking request. Do not threaten, insult or harass anyone, do not send sexual content, and do not use the app to cheat anyone. Messages are checked automatically: some are refused, and some are delivered with a warning to the person who receives them.

The same check for words is made wherever you write something another person will read: your name, a business's name, its description and its services, the name and note on a booking request, a review and the answer to it, and what you send to our team. Swearing, sexual words, slurs, threats and insults aimed at a person are refused, and you are told so at once; nothing refused is kept. The check is made by the app, not by a person, and it can be wrong: if it refuses something innocent, say it another way or tell us from Report a bug. A name is never refused: if the check stops at a word in your name or your business's name, the name is saved, other people see that word as its first letter until a person on our team has looked, and you carry on. If it is a real name it is then shown in full.

Our team writes to you in one place only: Help in the app, in answer to a question you sent. Nobody acting for Teofil will call you, send you a link, or ask you for money, a code or a password.

You can report or block a business, and a business can report or block a customer. The other side is not told who reported them. Our team looks at every report.

Reviews

Only a customer whose visit took place can review it, once, within 60 days. A review must be honest and about that visit. It is shown with your first name and the first letter of your last name. A review cannot be edited or deleted once sent. The business may answer it once in public. We may hide a review that breaks these rules.

The record of a visit

After a finished visit the business may say what it received, and on a paid plan may add a photo of the finished work. The amount is the business's own statement. It is not a receipt from Teofil and not our confirmation of a payment: we took no money and saw none. The business may correct the amount or take it back for 30 days, and your record says when it has. If it is not what you paid, you can say so on the record. The business sees that, both statements stay, and we do not decide between them.

A photo of the finished work is a picture of you or of something made for you, so it is yours to refuse. You can remove it from your record at any time. It is then deleted, and the business cannot add another to that visit.

If you are a business

Your page must be true: your own name and trade, photos of your own work, and the prices you really charge. Answer requests, keep the times you accept, and treat customers properly. The work you do, its quality and safety, and any licence or tax your trade requires are your responsibility.

Never ask a customer for their phone number as a condition of serving them, for money before a visit outside the deposit form, or for official personal documents.

If you take card payments in the app, every charge and every refund is made on your own account with our payment partner. You are the seller: the fees, the refunds and any dispute about a payment are yours to answer. A deposit you set and the rules you write for it are your word to the customer: return a deposit when your own rules say it goes back, and when you call a visit off. Our payment partner does not give back the card fee on a payment that is refunded. When a customer cancels in time, that fee stays out of what goes back to them, as your page tells them beforehand; when you call a visit off, or choose to refund, the customer gets all of it and the fee is yours.

What you say you received for a visit must be true. Add a photo of a customer's finished work only with that customer's agreement.

The names, numbers, measurements and notes you write about your own customers (walk-ins, tailors' orders, your day book) are your records. You are responsible for having your customers' agreement to keep them, and they are shown only to your business.

Pro

Pro is a paid plan for businesses. It starts with 30 days free, once for each business, with no payment details. After that you pay for one month at a time, or for three, six or twelve months at once. Nothing renews by itself and we keep no means of charging you again: we remind you, and you decide.

When the time you paid for ends you have three more days, and then your business returns to the free plan with its page, its bookings and its data. The price is the one shown on this website for your country when you pay, and a new price applies only from your next payment. Time paid for and not used is not refunded, including when you close your business.

Suspending and ending

You can delete your account at any time, in the app or on this website. We may warn you, hide your page or a review, or suspend your account or your business if you break these terms or put other people at risk. We give the reason when we do.

We may also limit or remove an account or a business that abuses the service: by not coming to visits, by card payments a bank takes back, by reports about it that we uphold, or by getting round a suspension. We may do so with or without telling you.

What we are responsible for

We work to keep Teofil running and safe, but we offer it as it is and cannot promise it will never fail. We do not check every business, and we are not responsible for the service a business gives, for what a customer does, or for money that passes between you. Nothing in these terms takes away a right the law gives you and does not allow to be taken away.

Changes and contact

If we change these terms we say so in the app before the change applies. Write to us at legal@teofil.app.
